1
Knead together all the ingredients for the dough until combined, but dont overwork. Shape into sausages about 4 cm in diameter, wrap each in cling film and leave to rest in the fridge for 30 minutes.

2
Meanwhile, sieve the icing sugar into a large, sealable bowl and mix with 1/2 tsp of the Sweet Allrounder. The sealable bowl is important because you can use any leftovers for your next batch of vanilla crescents!

3
Take out your rolls of dough and cut into slices about 1–2 cm thick. Shape these slices into crescents and place them not too close together on a baking tray lined with baking paper.

4
Bake in the oven at 175°C fan oven for around 15 minutes, checking after 12 minutes. The biscuits are ready when they start to turn a golden brown.

5
Leave the biscuits to cool on the tray for about 3 minutes. Then dip them carefully into the prepared icing sugar mixture, covering them on all sides.

Tip: If they are too warm, they will break very easily. If they are too cold, the icing sugar will no longer adhere well. It is best to keep trying to see if they are firm enough. A second dusting right before serving is recommended. Delish!

Vanilla kipferl (vanilla crescent biscuits)

What are vanilla kipferl? Vanilla kipferl are nutty vanilla shortbread cookies originally from Austria and very popular in Germany and other European countries at Christmas. The short texture makes for a wonderfully crumbly biscuit that melts in your mouth. A pinch or two of our Sweet Allrounder is all you need to really amp up the flavour!

Other German Christmas food

Do you love a German Christmas market as much as we do? Bratwurst, langos and garlic mushrooms, all washed down with a mug or two of gluhwein? Perfect. Don’t forget your bag of candied almonds for the snowy walk home!
