1
Wash and dry the orange thoroughly, then cut into slices. Peel the ginger and cut into thick slices.

2
Put the Apple Cinnamon Porridge Spice into a small cheesecloth pouch and tie closed firmly.

3
Pour the red wine into a large pot and add all the other ingredients and spice pouch (except the optional rum/brandy). Gently warm the pot while stirring to dissolve the sugar, but don’t let it boil.

4
Remove the spice pouch. Ladle your delicious gluhwein into mugs, with or without the orange and spices as a garnish, and add a shot of rum or brandy if you are feeling brave!

Gluhwein

German mulled wine is a staple at German Christmas markets. The delicious scent wafts through the stalls as friends gather after work to enjoy a mug or four in the snowy town centres. What wine should you use for gluhwein or mulled wine? Any red wine you enjoy drinking! As the wine is sweetened with sugar, opt for a dry red with fruity notes to complement the spices. Our Apple Cinnamon Porridge Spice is put to great use here, adding notes of vanilla and aniseed to this perennial favourite.

Langos, a Hungarian fried bread recipe, is always a huge hit – these garlicky flatbreads are seasoned perfectly with the Aglio e Olio Seasoning, then topped with sour cream, bacon crumbles and grated cheese. For a sweet nostalgic snack, try making paper cones for your candied almonds!
