The story of Just Spices

Hi there. We are Just Spices, and we make cooking easy, quick and irresistibly tasty. Our story all started in a student flat in Dortmund, Germany, where our three founders, Ole, Florian and Béla, lived together.

Where it all began

All three friends loved to cook and enjoy good food. One evening, they decided to invite some friends over, cook up something special and show off their cooking skills a bit. They settled on making an Indian dish and headed to the supermarket for ingredients. That’s when they hit a snag. At home, the recipe sounded simple, but at the store, they were overwhelmed by the array of spices needed – so many for just one dish! They wondered why there weren’t ready-made spice mixes available. And why couldn’t spice jars be both functional and stylish?

That’s how the idea for Just Spices came to be. We wanted to create spice mixes and seasonings that were perfectly blended and easy to use, so you wouldn’t need to buy heaps of different spices that just sit on the counter taking up space. With our spices, you can easily whip up anything from African dishes and Asian specialities to a classic home-made pasta sauce. Everything’s more straightforward with the right spices.

A tour of kitchens around the world

Florian, Ole, and Béla loved the idea that the right spices could transform any meal into something special. Fueled by their passion for food and a bit of wanderlust, they set out on a global adventure to find the best spices and spice mixes out there. They tasted perfectly seasoned pasta in Italy, zesty tacos in Mexico and rich, aromatic curries in India. They checked out what was cooking in kitchens everywhere, just to make home cooking simpler and tastier for you. Now, they’re excited to bring these world-class flavours into your kitchen.

On our global journey, not only did we savour incredible food, but we also met some amazing people. Each encounter inspired the illustrations on our spice pots. These aren’t just portraits; they capture the cooks’ culinary skills, their style of cuisine and their unique personalities. For example, on our Italian Allrounder, you’ll find an Italian Nonna who shared her secret for the most delicious pasta. Our Chinese Allrounder features a Chinese chef known for his superb wok recipes.
