Spicy World Tour: The Spiciest Places on Earth
February 23, 2022
Have you ever asked yourself where you can find the spiciest places on earth? Is it Morocco, Africa, India or maybe Germany as well? In this article, we’ll take you on our spicy world tour and show you the spiciest places on earth. Are you ready to travel?
The largest bazaar in Africa: the souks in Marrakech
In Marrakech, an entire part of the city centre - the so-called medina - is a single market for numerous traditional products. In the winding streets of the medina, the 'souks' invite you to browse: leather goods, fabrics, crockery and also spices can be found here in endless abundance and beautiful surroundings.
Original Moroccan pepper, nutmeg, ginger or real argan oil - here you will find everything that makes your heart beat faster in the spiciest way possible. If you need a break from the shopping spree, just sit down in one of the small cafés in the souks and watch the hustle and bustle around you.
A sea of colours and smells: The Egyptian Bazaar in Istanbul
The Egyptian bazaar in Istanbul, Turkey, offers an almost unbelievable variety of colourful spices and aromatic smells. The market got its name because the majority of the goods traded used to come from Egypt. Today the bazaar is also called the 'spice bazaar' and lives up to its name. About 100 shops here specialize in the sale of spices and thus shape the hustle and bustle of the lively town enormously.
Various types of cinnamon, pepper and salt, essences, oils and dried fruits - there is nothing here that is not available. The inner courtyard of the L-shaped covered market also has flowers, tea and even pet vendors.
Grenada Spice Island
More spices grow here per square meter than anywhere else in the world. The Caribbean island is particularly known for cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cocoa and the spicy nutmeg, which is even immortalized on the flag of the "Island of Spices".
A simple walk across the island is like a culinary discovery tour: mangoes, of which there are so many that they just lie around when they are ripe, countless nutmeg trees with bright yellow fruits - the island, which is still largely hidden from mass tourism, lets you deep into the world of spices immerse yourself and reward you with lasting experiences.
The Spice Souk in traditional Dubai
The enormously traditional district on Dubai Creek, the city's waterfront on the Persian Gulf, forms an absolute contrast to mega-modern Dubai, the city of dizzying skyscrapers. Time seems to have stood still here, revealing a Dubai reminiscent of the fishing village that this place was, incredibly, 200 years ago.
Spicy's Spice Museum in Hamburg
350 square meters full of smells, tastes and the history of the spice world. In Hamburg, the Spice Museum offers a slightly different view of cinnamon, vanilla & co. Sure, you can try and smell them, but the history, including trade routes and growing regions, is also examined more closely here.
Incidentally, there are also regular events where you can learn everything about different types of pepper, for example, or take part in an experimental tasting of sweet and spicy delicacies. One thing is for sure: Here you will find a spicy experience with a difference.
